Mega post.. Sawyer's surgery, St. Patty's day!

Today March 17th was the day we took Sawyer in for his surgeries. We dropped Sadie off at Grandpa and Grandma Kuehne's last night and she had a fun sleep over with them. We had to be at the hospital at 7:45 so we decided that would be the best thing to do with her. So we arrived this morning at 7:45 and the waiting room was packed! We got signed in and waited and waited and waited some more and finally went back to get things going around 9:00. We got him in his little surgery outfit and took some cute pictures which are posted below. And the all the doctors and nurses came in and talked to us about all the info we would need and then we walked him down the hall and the anesthesiologist took him from us after Mommy gave him tons of kisses and Daddy too. Then we went and waited in the other parent waiting room. And that seemed like it was forever too.

They did his tubes first and that only took about 10 minutes and then that Doctor came in and talked with us and let us know that all went great. Then we decided to run down to get something to eat for breakfast since it would be another 45 minutes for the other part.( His circumcision being fixed) so we did that and then the other Doctor came in and said that things went well there as well, they did have a hard time getting the IV in at first but that was the only hard part. Sawyer did so great they said. Then we had to wait more till we could see him, it seemed like forever since they had told us we could go back, but finally they called us, so after all that they only let one parent go back to the recovery, so we decided that I would go back.

They had told us that he may have kind of a croupy cough after they take the breathing tube out and sure enough he did. So they had to watch him for another half hour to make sure that his heart rate was good, his oxygen levels were good and all the vital signs and he checked out great and then was moved to the other side of the recovery room and then Lance was able to come back and we waited another hour with them watching him there before we could take him home. So after all mommy's worrying everything turned out great and now we hope that it will continue that way. Thanks for all your kinds words and prayers they were greatly appreciated!

I have some pictures of the day that I have posted of him before we left for his surgeries and then right before he went in and after. All the nurses and Doctors were so nice and they all loved our sweet little boy, they all just kept commenting on how cute he was and his beautiful blue eyes and that he was such a calm baby. It was nice to hear that!

So we took Sawyer home and then I went to pick up Sadie and she was so cute when she saw me, made me feel good. My mom and Dad stopped by last night to check on Sawyer and they were so nice and bought the kids a toy. They bought Sawyer the Little People farm that makes sounds since he was so brave in his surgery and she said that she wanted Sadie to have one too since she was so good, lol so she got the Little people mommy and baby car that make sounds. It's so cute it is purple and pink. My mom has always done stuff like that when the grand kids are sick or have had to go through something she gets them a prize, it's cute! So Thanks Grammy, Grandpa Kuehne.

Mommy and Sawyer, it was way to early for both of us to be up and going somewhere. Normally when he wakes up we snuggle in my bed. So to have to be up and out the door at 6:45 it was rough! :)

Daddy and Sawyer after getting changed into his hospital gown. They said that they didn't have anymore one's that just tie so Sawyer had one that were like pj's but did tie in the back. Looks kinda girly, but he still looks cute! And seriously are hospital gowns ever cute anyway? I don't think so! :)

This was him after he had woken up and they had moved him to the next side of recovery. He would not let go of the oxygen mask, so the cute nurse took it off the one part and let him play with mask part. He played with that thing till we left. ( I just noticed that my camera still says the wrong date, how weird) I guess I need to fix that.This was him not so happy after the nurse kept messing with his IV, He did not appreciate that!!

Here he is finally being able to drink some formula.. They gave him some of those small bottles and he drank two with in a few minutes! We had to have him fast and he could not eat after midnight, so he was starving by then. He could have had apple juice by 6:15 that morning, but he slept past that so he didn't get too!It was so scary having him be in there, even though his surgery was nothing compared to half of those kids in there and what they go through and we feel very blessed that it was just a few hours surgery and we didn't have to stay there for days on end like some of the wonderful families that we met. They go through so much.

One of our many attempts to get a picture of the two of them. Sawyer was just not in the mood and I don't blame him. He was sad in all the pictures and Sadie was just being a pill and would not sit still.

For some reason they love to play with my measuring spoons and cups and so this was what Sadie wanted to do instead of taking pictures. She is so silly! Sawyer's eyes were so red from crying and also from some of the meds they had given him earlier because it made his cheeks and under his eyes really red. My poor little man.

Well we hope you all had a fun St. Patricks day, ours was busy but nice!
